How Would You Invest $500,000?
Pinoy Money Talk recently asked their readership a similar question. So, I'm posing the question to you. What would you invest in, if you had a spare 1/2 million dollars for investing?
Pinoy's answer:
Real estate - 40%
Equity mutual funds - 30%
Bonds mutual funds - 20%
Savings - 10%
I'm not sure about my own answer, but dreaming about it is fun!
JMO,
Sharon

Re: How Would You Invest $500,000?
I am surprised this topic has not got more attention.
For me, it would depend on how I came across the money. I would like to retire as much debt as possible and then look at putting some into our currently very small stock portfolio and then managed property and stock funds.
I might take some and look into derivatives trading myself for fun and hopefully profit.
If I had no debt to clear then maybe some higher risk projects or even small venture capital projects.
Another option is not to invest but just spend it all on big boys toys - cars etc.

Re: How Would You Invest $500,000?
LOL Brow! I love your last answer!
Hmmm.... using that philosophy, I think I would try to do the following:
- 10% tithe to church and/or charity
- 20% gifted to friends and family (includes kids' college funds)
- 10% savings account/CD/IRA
- 20% investing in real investment opportunities (Since I'm not good with stocks and/or trading of any kind. I'm really lousy when it comes to real estate.)
- 40% toys (car, small boat, HDTV, screaming laptop), a few luxuries (like a maid and gardner), and travel

Re: How Would You Invest $500,000?
I live pretty simply and would be happy with a little cottage on the beach, my dogs, and a kayak
So I'd invest most of it in a mix of short, medium, and long term plans and continue to live frugally (after I've bought that cottage and a first class kayak)
lol
I honestly know squat about investments. (numbers make me dizzy) But I know how to save and how to live cheaply ...

Re: How Would You Invest $500,000?
$100,000 - Gold and Silver
$100,000 - Betfair trading
$100,000 - FOREX trading
Last month I bought a bottle of wine from '84. I drank the wine and kept the small wooden box it came with. I would take the remaining $200,000 out and all future profits and I would put everything in that box until I have more then $1million.
Just a thought LOL
PS: I already have $200 in my wine-box-piggy bank.

I'd be looking for the box when I visit. I'm not greedy, just make sure my first $500,000.00 is in there when I do that

Re: How Would You Invest $500,000?
Hm, $500 k isn't bad at all. I'll probably put a fair amount of that (around 50%) to make some of my offline business ideas.
The rest 250k will go into a real estate (100k), managed forex (50k) and aggressive mutual funds (100k). Oh wait, I need at leats 50k for fun, so some of the pieces will be smaller

Re: How Would You Invest $500,000?
If that amount is in USD, it is a lot to me since my home currency is weaker against the greenback.
But generally, I will spend it as:
1) Clear and settle all my family debts/loans first (housing, car etc)
2) The balance will be split accordingly:-
10% - Tithes and offerings
20% - Increase investments in existing reliable portfolios or Forex trading
20% - Unit trusts/Mutual funds/CDs/FDs/Insurance investments
20% - Properties/Housing
20% - Start an offline business, maybe.
10% - Spend it!! (My wife, travel, gadgets, etc..)

Re: How Would You Invest $500,000?
Around 50% for offline projects (Photovoltaic park which is hugely sponsored by the government, and has great returns) and a couple more ideas
50K for spending ..
i suppose another 50K would be split to family members ... ( just a gift )
the other 150K ..
I would try to invest it although i am a newbie in real investments and i fear i could loose it.. so..
100K in forex programs but it would take time to identify them ..
and the last 50K perhaps stock through a trader friend of my father. (he has guaranteed principal to my father, but i doubt he would do the same to me..)
